Museum

AECOM highlights specific projects by curating special exhibitions in public museums. As specialists in cultural resources management and material culture, we carefully adhere to the best practices enumerated by the American Alliance of Museums and are respected as professional peers by museum staff. Through our public exhibitions, we share archaeological artifacts and thousands of years of history with diverse audiences.

In 2012, we partnered with the Independence Seaport Museum in Philadelphia to present Digging the City: Archaeological Discoveries from the Philadelphia Waterfront. This exhibition featured artifacts from the I-95 Improvement Project, work conducted on behalf of the Pennsylvania Department of Transformation and the Federal Highways Administration. As a supplement to the exhibition, we presented two evening public programs in order to present more in-depth, focused research and engage with the museum’s audience.

Another exhibition of I-95 artifacts, From the Ground Up: Archaeology, Artisans, and Everyday Life, will open at Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center in Millville, New Jersey, in April 2016. Along with the exhibition, we will work with the museum staff to develop educational materials and utilize this institution’s resources to give live demonstrations of knapping, glassblowing, and pottery making. The exhibition will highlight new information and research that has come to light as a result of our archaeological excavations, while emphasizing the regional significance of this particular project.
